Safeguarding in YFC

The Devon Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs is committed to improving the lives of rural young people by providing a diverse range of educational opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence and resilience, meet new people and make friends, in a fun and safe environment.

Everyone involved in YFC, including members, supporters, parents/guardians, staff and helpers are expected to follow the YFC Positive Code of Conduct.

Those who are in a ‘Position of Trust’, such as a Club Officer or Club Leader, must complete the NFYFC Safeguarding Awareness Training (online) to be eligible to take on their role in YFC. This training is refreshed every three years.

Club or Group Designated Safeguarding Officer

Most clubs have at least one officer responsible for safeguarding who is overseen and supported by the county Designated Safeguarding Lead, who in turn is supported by the DFYFC Safeguarding Committee, and the NFYFC Safeguarding & Behaviour team.

YFC Safeguarding Officer Role

County Designated Safeguarding Lead

Our appointed Designated Safeguarding Lead is Fern Lindsay (Chief Officer). We encourage anyone who has a safeguarding concern to report it confidentially to report@devonyfc.co.uk so appropriate action can be taken and support offered. Reporting incidents helps mitigate against any risk to others.

Support for YFC members

We understand some individuals may feel unable to report an incident to  Devon YFC for a number of reasons. While all cases are handled sensitively and confidentially, we understand if an individual would prefer to speak to other organisations for support first or instead.

Please refer to the organisations listed in our Signposting to Support Document.  document.

If you don’t wish to self-refer or need assistance to reach out to any of the listed organisations – or any other not listed – we are happy to help.
